I am committed to building community.
I enjoy living in communities where diverse people come together to support each other. I am running for Town Council to help Chapel Hill become an affordable place for everyone to live, work, and have fun. Our kids go to public school and you can see us around at many community events.
I bring a track record of public service to Chapel Hill.
My public service record includes improving cooperation between the Town and CHCCS, advocating for funding for parks and recreation, and helping launch a volunteer trail maintenance program.
While serving on the Planning Commission, I supported dense housing projects along transit routes and worked on balancing housing growth with preserving natural areas. I participated actively in enhancing our land use ordinance.

I have dedicated my career to community service.
My career has focused on assisting immigrants and refugees. After a stop work order in the U.S. refugee resettlement program, I returned to teaching English at Durham Tech. My experiences center me in hope for a better America.
My Vision for Chapel Hill: Effective, Healthy, Vibrant, and Connected
Ensuring an Effective Government That Lowers Our Cost of Living

Chapel Hill is home to remarkable individuals and innovative ideas, alongside some of the best resources available to any community of our size. We are leaders in critical areas such as affordable housing, climate action, and public transit. Presently, we face reduced revenues, increased costs, and a highly uncertain future regarding essential state and federal funding. Until we experience a rapid recovery in sales tax revenue and an expansion of our commercial tax base, prudent spending is required to navigate this period. The pattern of escalating residential property taxes to compensate for our budget beyond inflation rates is unsustainable. We must avoid making our town less affordable. Our community demands better balance in prioritizing our goals, accountability in achieving outcomes, and transparent communication with the public.

Proposals:

Deliver Value on Parks and Recreation for a Healthy Chapel Hill
Public parks and recreation programs, being accessible to all, offer affordable ways to maintain health and happiness. We are investing in a new parks and recreation master plan that requires thorough implementation. Regrettably, our 2013 plan saw insufficient execution. Neighboring communities are developing new park facilities that provide engaging spaces for health, fun, and relaxation. We must realize our plan and deliver similar value within Chapel Hill. We can start with ramping up our recreation programs that won't cost a lot of money to see results.

Increase Economic Development for a Vibrant Town
A vibrant town relies on its people, job opportunities, small businesses, arts, and inviting pedestrian spaces. We must envision a future Chapel Hill teeming with creative energy. The communities around us are now attracting individuals and businesses; thus, maintaining economic competitiveness is crucial for our growth. Economic growth will also generate additional funds to support priorities reflecting our values.

Build Greenways for a Connected Chapel Hill
To promote safe and vibrant community spaces, greenways are vital for connecting individuals to great locations and one another. While complete car independence may not be feasible, developing alternatives that encourage reduced driving, particularly for short trips within town, is essential. Greenways enhance resident satisfaction, making towns desirable places to live, relocate, or invest in. Currently, we are behind in our commitment to building greenways, with no active projects this year. It is imperative that we do not let another year pass without constructing greenways in Chapel Hill.

How are we going to get there? Here is what I want to do...
